Flood Defence at Shrewsbury

Land use in Shrewsbury has been created to absorb some of the floodwater Mountfields Playing Fields and The Quarry. In addition, some permanent and temporary structures have been planned to reduce the impacts of flooding.

Top left - shows the bank stabilisation and red brick wall flood defence scheme to help prevent flooding on the western banks of the river at the foot of Welsh Bridge in the area of the town called Frankwell. This is the main crossing point of the A458 trunk road into Wales. A dredger is also at work clearing sediment from the river bed to reduce the risk of flooding.

Top right - Frankwell Car Park's access point has been elevated to divert floodwater from the foot of Welsh Bridge.

Left - Frankwell electricity sub-station has been elevated to a height of 1 metre to keep the floodwaters at bay.
